Megan Barone, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Owner

Dr. Barone is a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Virginia Therapy & Wellness. She has over 10 years of experience working with adolescent, young adult, and adult populations, particularly undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Barone completed her residency at Carnegie Mellon University’s College Counseling Center in 2018, and has been working in private practice since then.

Dr. Barone sees clients with a wide variety of presenting concerns, including relationship conflict, low self-esteem, life transitions and adjustment, perinatal and postpartum concerns, issues related to identity, work and career-related stress, grief and loss, and trauma. She also has specialized training in the treatment of anxiety disorders, such as OCD, social anxiety, specific phobias, and panic disorder.

Dr. Barone integrates techniques and interventions primarily from Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic frameworks, and tailors treatment to facilitate a client’s individual process of healing and growth. She also uses Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in the treatment of anxiety disorders.

Ryan Malone, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Malone is a licensed clinical psychologist and offers virtual therapy sessions to adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, low self-esteem, life transitions, career/academic stress, relationship issues, high-functioning Autism, ADHD, trauma and PTSD and substance use. Additionally, Dr. Malone has experience and interest working with veterans, military family members, and athletes.

Dr. Malone earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Adler University in Chicago. He has experience across several settings, including community mental health, residential substance-abuse, and inpatient behavioral health. Dr. Malone’s person-centered and solutions-based approach focuses on each client’s current needs and future goals. Additionally, his treatment style ties in Adlerian therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, existentialism, and positive psychology, which can be tailored to client preferences, personality factors, and expressed symptoms.

Dr. Malone strives to make meaningful connections in therapy and holds the client-therapist relationship in high regard. Those who work with Dr. Malone can expect a safe and open space in therapy, free from judgment, with a therapist who is eager to learn and work on equal footing towards improvement.

Aaliyah Gibbons, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Gibbons is a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia. She has over 7 years of experience working with adolescent and adult populations in a variety of settings including private practice, short and long term inpatient hospitals, intensive outpatient programs, and the justice system.

Dr. Gibbons earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology- DC Campus. She is deeply passionate about helping others heal through their traumatic experiences. Dr. Gibbons is in the process of becoming a Level 2 Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and works with clients who may have presenting concerns like grief and loss, addiction, eating disorders, PTSD, personality disorders, suicidal or homicidal ideation, and more.

Dr. Gibbons takes a holistic approach to treatment, helping others understand how their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing is connected. She integrates DBT, parts work, and relational therapies to help others understand themselves better and develop effective coping skills. Dr. Gibbons values the use of humor and creativity to develop safe, non judgmental, and supportive spaces for her clients. She believes that, even in the most complex of circumstances, everyone deserves to have a life worth living.

Charlotte Howson, PsyD

Post-Doctoral Resident

Dr. Howson earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from George Washington University. She is a post-doctoral resident through Virginia’s board of Psychology and is supervised by Megan Barone, PsyD.

Dr. Howson has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings, including private practice, community mental health, emergency services, and outpatient psychiatry. She has a particular interest in helping clients who struggle with chronic illness, abusive relationships, interpersonal conflict, complex trauma, grief and loss, and challenges around identity, life transitions, and self-esteem.

While Dr. Howson’s approach to therapy is primarily psychodynamic and relational, she draws on various modalities, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, to create a tailored therapeutic experience. She believes safety, trust, and respect are critical elements to successful therapy. Similarly, she views every single client as a completely unique person with equally distinct strengths and needs. Fundamental to this work is Dr. Howson’s strong belief that a client’s identity and therapeutic needs are oftentimes a result of long-standing patterns that are rooted within the past.

Arianne Anderson, MA

Licensed Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy

Arianne holds a master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego.  She is a resident in MFT through Virginia’s board of counseling, and is supervised by Laurie Wilson, LMFT and Megan Barone, PsyD.

Arianne has experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She is a trained Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, and has extensive experience working with individuals in crisis. She also has experience treating clients with eating disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. Additionally, Arianne spent three years working on a research study aimed at building resiliency for military families post deployment; and as a Navy veteran and mother of two, she has a passion for working with military and veteran families.

Arianne’s therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based practices like dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) while integrating interventions that promote insight and facilitate growth and transformation.
