Post-Doctoral Resident
Dr. Somerville earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Kent State University, and completed her residency at Duke University Medical Center. She is currently a postdoctoral resident under the supervision of Megan Barone, PsyD.
Dr. Somerville has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings, including a
private practice, university clinic, community mental health center, and medical center. She is
incredibly passionate about helping people navigate life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma,
grief, loss, perinatal concerns, identity concerns, and interpersonal conflict.
Dr. Somerville’s approach to therapy is integrative, blending techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Dr. Somerville tailors her therapeutic methods, meeting clients where they are and addressing
their unique needs. Her approach helps clients tackle immediate concerns and fosters resiliency
and growth, helping them achieve a more fulfilling and empowered life.
Dr. Somerville strongly believes that the building blocks to effective therapy include creating a
warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental safe space where clients feel understood and supported.
She values a collaborative, client-centered approach, encouraging open communication and
active involvement throughout the therapeutic process.
